PROGRAM AND GRANT MANAGEMENT at War Child Amsterdam

Do you want to know more about how major institutions like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and the United Nations distribute their money for humanitarian aid? Are you curious how these grants are invested in programs in order to protect war-affected children from violence and help them establish a positive outlook on the future? Furthermore, do you like challenging and extensive research into national, international and institutional funding opportunities?

The internship at the Program and Grant Management at War Child’s Head Office in Amsterdam offers you a great and inspiring opportunity to learn more about fundraising, interesting areas of humanitarian aid and War Child’s mission to invest in a peaceful future for children affected by armed conflict.

Responsibilities

The Intern will support the program advisers, particularly on research into institutional donors, funding opportunities and keeping the donor relationships database up to date.

Tasks and Result areas

  • Research into Institutional Donors and Foundations
  • Investigation of institutional donors and funding opportunities through intensive online research;
  • Identification of relevant foundations through existing databases;
  • Registration of all funding opportunities, donor contacts and results;
  • Supporting the program advisers in improving the country specific donor information;
  • Preparing donor visits and travels of team members;
  • Background research and preparation of donor meetings;
  • Preparing communication packages.
  • Donor Relations Administration
  • Administration of all Program & Donor Management contacts in War Child database;
  • Drafting thank you letters to foundations.
  • Other
  • Drafting summaries (info sheets) of War Child projects;
  • Provide support to the Manager of Program & Grant Management with additional tasks.

Aanvang of eind januari of eind augustus/begin september.

Reporting

The Intern Program & Grant Management will report to the Senior Program Advisor Foundations. Regular contact will be maintained with the Program & Grant Managers and other team members.

Required skills and experience

  • Education in International Relations, International Law, Social Sciences, International Development Studies or International Business;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of NGO and/or development sector, preferably through prior work/volunteer experience;
  • Excellent command of the English and Dutch language, both spoken and written;
  • Good analytical, research and writing skills;
  • Good communicative skills – the ability to retrieve relevant information about funding possibilities with different organizations in different countries;
  • Accurate, precise and eye for detail;
  • Good sense of priorities and time management;
  • Quick understanding of different computer software and filing systems;
  • Self-motivated independent worker with the ability to follow direction and effectively learn;
  • Good team working skills.
